I am delighted to announce that I am now available for classes and 1-2-1 sessions in N1, at a lovely, light and airy space on the first floor of 116 Pentonville Road, above Time For.London

One-to-one Functional Integration lessons are available above the cafe between 1 and 5pm on Thursday afternoons.

The Feldenkrais Approach to Well-Being

Many of us are so used to living in a bodysuit of unconscious but compulsive muscular tension that we cannot remember what it feels like to move with ease & spontaneity – the way young children move before life’s responsibilities & anxieties kick in. 

Awareness Through Movement teaches you to let go of this unconscious suit of armour, to unlearn self-bracing, to transfer the job of resisting gravity from muscles unsuited to the job, and back to your skeleton – the amazing piece of engineering designed by evolution over millennia to do the job effortlessly. 

Feldenkrais strategies enable the unravelling of these unconscious muscular tensions, but the long-term aim is greater ease in every aspect of life and a flexible mind that continues to learn and adapt to new circumstances throughout our lives. Every time you can catch yourself tensing up again, you learn a little more about yourself, your true feelings, and your suppressed desires. Once you start to get a handle on what is making you so resistant to life, and armoured against those around you, then it becomes possible to begin to truly renew yourself.

For anyone who hasn’t experienced the Method yet, here is a description of a class, from my article “Feldenkrais And The Art Of Allowing”:

“In class we lie on the floor, gently surrendering to gravity, and begin to remember the art of softening, and freeing, and releasing, and letting go, re-awakening our awareness to all the bio-and–neuro-feedback that comes to us constantly from our various internal and external senses, feedback which we have been unconsciously tuning out, or may even have switched off completely. As our ability to move in unfamiliar patterns and non-habitual movement sequences develops, we are also learning to shed our muscular corsets, and access new ways of moving in everyday life – ways that are fluid, and rhythmic, and pleasurable to experience; an outer, visible expression of our internal alignment and increasing equilibrium. In time we become more responsive to what is going on, tuning in to the vibrant world around us, fully resonating with life, easily integrating all the different parts of ourselves into a natural whole, so that we can be fully present and fully ourselves, even when we are surrounded and buffeted by the other strong personalities in our lives…” Full article here.

Feldenkrais is very easily understood as a for of mindfulness in motion, as recommended by the Buddha himself! **

After each class I will post useful links and practice notes on my blog, to help you maintain and accelerate your improvement.

All classes are currently drop-in, and all are suitable for any level of ability, however please note that there are stairs to climb – contact me if you would like information about classes with level access elsewhere…
